Alvaro Sarmiento

Alvaro and Diego Sarmiento are two Peruvian filmmaker brothers. GREEN RIVER. THE TIME OF THE YAKURUNAS their debut feature premiered at the 67 Berlin Film Festival (Forum 2017) and the Museum of Modern Art Doc Fortnight in New York.

Alvaro is a visual artist and screenwriter recipient of the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center Arts & Literary Arts Residency and the MacDowell Colony Fellowship.

Guided by ayahuasca chants, Green River. The time of the Yakurunas is a poetic journey into the depths of the Amazon. The film explores the perception of time in three small villages intertwined by the flowing waters of the Amazon river, immersing the viewer in a landscape inhabited by shamans and archetypical societies.
